I posted on the "questionable 1916" thread the other day and I had to show my ignorance and admit I had none of these beautiful coins. So my wife and I stop by an antique shop and the guy has a small stack of his desk he had just acquired. He sold these 6 to me for $20. I think they are sweet and of nice grade so watch out guys I'm an authority now How'd I do?

First, welcome to the addiction.

Second - for $20 - I'd say you did very well.

Can you let us know what mintmarks you got there? Is that a 27s or a 28D, etc., etc.

Separate pics of each coin will help ALOT.

Congrats on a great deal.

That is a nice looking group, looks like VG-F+. You paid about melt, so you did quite well; especially if that 1927 has a mintmark(tough to tell).

The 1928's are both s mint.
Here is a picture of the 1929. It's a toss up between her and the 1930 as far as top grade is concerned. I told my wife the grade is full cleavage.

Which brings up a question. Do people actually melt these (or any) coins or is that against the law?
Rest in Peace

ooo....with the updated pic of the 1929, I will change my grade to VF for that one! More detail than the first ones showed. Definitely worth more than you paid!

Nice buy, that 1929 is nicer than the one I've got filling a hole right now. Great start to your collection!!

You are allowed to melt silver coins in the US, but you would have to be crazy to want to melt those beauties.

I think you would be crazy to melt any US coin, unless it was really worn to not much of anything; but I'm a romantic collector as opposed to in it more profit.
