I just found out that the some forum owners do not like to play well with others. I have learned long ago that people only "put down" what is better. They like to knock others to make themselves feel better. This type of pettiness is not good for the hobby. We all need to promote our hobby in whatever way we can. Negative remarks only receive negative comments. Too many people are just sad about their own lives and knock others. Remember that misery loves company. I for one would rather focus on the good things in life. I have only 1 life to live, and the petty people are not worth the effort to even discuss.
So let us move on and discuss some beautiful coins.

Hopefully, that will not happen here. I believe the quality of the post versus the number of posts is more important. Sure we can have fun, but you can only beat a dead horse so much!
Good to see you Stujoe...welcome!

Thanks to all for the welcome. And, trust me on this one, once a coin forum starts getting a bunch of members from search engines, you are going to get those 'gold plated coin' questions and all the rest and you will see them time and time again. The other big one is the people who are convinced they have found the miraculous way to clean a coin and it is perfect because they can't see any damage and it looks so much better. <Sigh> My theory is that is like the old saying of You can lead a horse to water... I am all for mentoring and helping but I think you should do what you can for them and then move on. If they are really coin addicts they will stay and learn and 'get it'. If not, after a point, you migth as well save your breath...or typing fingers as the case may be.

It's like everything else...we will see some that genuinely want to learn and some that just want confirmation of the "great treasure" they just found in their backyard. My feeling is that if we get one truly interested numismatic member for every 10 that register/post, then it's worth trying to help the other 9 in order to keep that 1 member. And there's always the possibility of someone who wasn't interested before they asked becoming interested as questions are answered.

If anyone could not guess why I chose to make this forum my home, just read that post by Susan. Her heart and efforts are certainly in the right place.

I am sure if information had existed I would not have polished gold sovereigns in 1965 with copper polish ( I was 18 ) But since I made all the mistakes I can relate to people that start wrong and then try to learn On another forum a New Zealander asked about gold 20 FF Napoleons He wanted to start with something valuable and historical I tried to help him and they just jumped on me and did not help him

I guess I should apply my Two Cents here as well. I was on Coin World forum before it was shut down. When that happend some of the members went to coin talk.I followed. Here I met Susan and Bobby. I liked their business attitude and that they believed in having a little fun at the same time. It short order I got more than a little upset with Coin Talk. They had too many chief's running the board. Even when I tried I couldn't say the right thing without one of them coming down on me. That was when Susan & Bobby opened this board. Well I'm here and I like the people here. I may not always agree but at least everyone get treated the same and is allowed to speak their views. About running their business on the board. I have no problem with that at all. I have bought and sold items. Beside they should have some perks for setting up and running the board. We have some Great people here with a lot of knowledge. Narional Dealer has contributed a lot of time and information. Spencer, Longnine. Groovy, Mike, and a whole bunch of others make this a great place to go. catman

welcome to all for thoseof you that are checkiong out this site and re new again let me say welcome. I was one of those who worked with Susan and Bobby when they were starting the site. I am rather new to the hobby, and it was the kindness of both Susan and Bobb that brought me here and keeps me here. We had long off line discussions about the advertising on this site. You will notice it is not flashy and they have never refered anyone to one of the links. That is a freedom of choice thing. No one has to click on any of the links and no one has to buy anything they don't want to. I collect foreigh coins. It's my thing. Susan & Bobby sell US coins. I am active in scouting. They have been very generous in donating many coins to the Scouts for demonstration lectures and they have also donated coins to many of my mates in Australia who are trying to obtain coins, but can not, due to distance and purchasing problems. This forum has been and is for the education of all. Anyone who says it is a sales site. Need new glasses and more time on line. I would like to express my appreciation to Susan & Bobby for all they are doing to the Coin Community of the world.

Catman, I would be disappointed if we did not have lively debates on our posts. 99% of the time these discussions result in learning. I repeat this again and mean it sincerely, I am honored to be part of this group. The foundation we are laying now in the way this forum is conducted can be maintained even as we grow as long as we remain open and fair minded and show a willingness to help others! I'd also like to thank rrgoodie for his many different and balanced views on forum topics, you are a great asset to this forum. Mike

I for one hope that we all never agree 100% of the time. No fun in that. A good debate or opinion is how we learn. While it may take a little pounding to get the idea through my head, I try to be open to the possibility of learning. I am the first to admit that I do not know everything and more than likely never will. Of course that doesn't keep me from trying . Friends can disagree on the finer points. What I like most about this forum is the fact that all are trying to learn and share what they know.
