Can it be done on Silver Proof coins?

It would work but I am not sure why you would want to do that because it would ruin a perfectly good proof coin. Trying this on face value pocket change is one thing but it should not be done to any coins with collector value.

If 2 out of every 5 is the odds, I might as well refrain from doing it.

The rainbow toning struck me and caught my intention experiment on it, I thought its worth a try on a silver proof coins available here but the odds of getting the rainbow effect are too low, then it's better not to. Besides your are right Biokemist6, it should not be done to any coins with collector value.

i agree not on coins with value .. also the rate may go up if I had more practice there's alot of timing to it . if you pull them out to early you only get light blue. if too late you get black
