I was looking though ebay for some comparatives as I have fallen for a few of the dollar types. I thought it would be a good idea to add a few 90% silver dollars to my collection but I decieded to go with APMEX instead. Now the question with a link, I was looking at these and thought they looked nice to ad but I decided not to as I couldn't find any info on them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:ITI think they look pretty cool and maybe one day I will add a few but I need info on these things before I go out and buy it. This lot went for 20 shipped, is that a good deal and if I due find a lot like this after I'm more informed about them would that be a good price. thanks, Bryan

I suspect they are only plated.. Though it does not say anywhere in the description. It also gives no indication of size or weight... I would call it misleading but that's just my opinion

Those do not appear to be US Mint products and as nohope587 said, without being stamped "999 silver" or similar, they are of little value. P.S. They should NOT be listed in: "Coins: US > Commemorative > Modern (1982-Now)". That is part of the problem. ebay lets sellers put anything, anywhere.

Due you know anything about the NATIONAL HISTORIC MINT thats where these are from apparently. I might just buy a lot to learn more about these + they due look nice and how can I test them to see if there plated or not. I forgot what it is to figure that out

The National Historic Mint is a firm whose mission is to produce thinly-plated base-metal "coins" and separate people from their hard-earned money by advertising them as "collectible." Pretty? Maybe. Collectible? Perhaps. Valuable? Never.
At one point, their parent company, Direct Marketing Enterprises of Westbury, Long Island, held the Better Business Bureau record for most consumer complaints.

Not coins, not tokens, probably not gold or silver, possibly plated, not made for any country, just made by a private mint in order to sell them someone who has no idea what he is buying. My guess on value, maybe a quarter each.

A quarter each for the value seems high...yet the result of the auction is evidence to the contrary.
Bryan, I doubt there's a speck of gold in those, and even if there is some plating, the metal became worthless as soon as it applied as plating.

I started to chime in on this thread when it was first posted, but wasn't sure if I would be out of place.
My first gut was that they looked like the garbage you would see on TV. And I also noticed that there was only one bid. I'm no commemorative pro, but if I can't find it listed in one of my books (Red book, for example), I'm certainly not interested.

privately minted, poor quality, not silver, especially not gold, not a U.S. coin, not worth much of anything. Save your money for a coin that was an actual issued coin. If you are uncertain of a coin look it up in the RedBook. If it is not there nor stamped .999 silver (in which it would be a bullion item) then stay away!

Quote: If it is not there nor stamped .999 silver (in which it would be a bullion item) Having ".999 Fine Silver" stamped on it does not necessarily mean it is made with silver.

"100 mills .999 fine silver"
When I first started buying silver, a few of the canadian sellers had these when they were selling bars. I stayed away from those after I figured out they were not pure silver
