Hi all. Am looking to learn how to grade my coins. What do you guys recommend as a guide? The only two grading books that Borders has are the two pictured below. I like the one by Mr. Bowers the best as it has more picture examples than the book by PCGS.

Are there any online grade guides?

What do you all you guys use and is there one grading guide that is considered the standard?

I use ANA Grading Standards and Photograde, I have not had a chance to check out Bowers new book yet. As for online grading, http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/

I have the PCGS book. I find the pictures lacking as most are in black and white. The chapters on Counterfeit Detection are good.

Just took a look at the pcgs.com/photograde and that seems to be exactly what I'm looking for! Just took a look at the wheat cents and I like how you can zoom in and hit the next button to view the next best grade. Seems like an easy way to grade would be to zoom in on AG03 and compare it to my coin. If my coin is better I hit next and keep going till the coin on the screen is better than the one in my hand, and back one pic and there is my grade!

and thanks for the second motion on Bowers book. I think that will be the one I buy if boarders still has it.

With the understanding that different denominations and mint year(s) often subject coins to different criteria, (e.g., silvers, poor strike years/coins, etc) for which there is specific documentation, below is a list of websites I use as a starting platform for grading.
