Coin Show Manners

Looks like the man has a powergrab problem. You can only look through one box at a time. The dealer should have stepped up and handed you a box, regardless of what superman wanted to do. I only set one box on my tables at shows, but they are foreign coins, arranged alphabetically by country and placed in a flip with the country, date, denomination and KM#. I have approximately 500 of these coins in a nice setup, which makes it easy locate a specific coin you may be looking for. I post a "Ten Minute" sign on the box. If they can't locate something in that time frame - move on. I have other customers waiting. I have done this for years and all my customers are in full agreement with me. The ones that don't like it can move on to another dealer and search through the open coins in boxes all they want. Next time this happens to you, speak directly to the dealer. If they are skittish about saying something - move on.

Oddly enough that is what I was just thinking. I know if that happened to me the above would have really come close to reality. I'm rather large in the over 6 feet and well over 250 pound range and take not much in the way of rudeness. Maybe not quite what is noted above but I'd sure have grabbed that back and said if it happens again, you'll loose the hand that does that.
I go to about 2 to 4 coin shows a Month and find many, many rude, ignorant, stupid individuals. I know that as we get older we tend to forget and/or don't notice some of the stupid things we do to others. At coin shows I frequently find people standing in front of a dealer just shooting the breeze with someone they know. I always say loudly Mind if I can get to that table? I do this even if I have no desire to see what is one that table. I do get some nasty looks but still always win that one. I guess I just feel if they are rude and ignorant, then me too.
At a flea market some guy was basically doing the same thing by attempting to look through two bins of coins at the same time. The seller knew me and said I've got some great coins for you in the truck and will show you them later. It wash't true but the hogger of the bins got ticked off and left. I liked that and laughed loudly which made that bin hogger even madder I think.
As a general rule most people at coin shows are rather on the polite side and usually friendly. Many of the older ones are looking to meet people as well as looking for coins. I find it amazing that I get to a coin show at about 8:30AM, supposed to open at 9AM, can't get out to about 11AM. Get into to many conversations with to many people.

I would have simply asked the dealer again for the box. Dealers are there to SELL coins. They tend to get mad when someone interferes with that process.

At a show I go to there's a high-end Lincoln dealer. We're on a first name basis because EVERYTIME I visit him, I buy some expensive stuff. Pretty often there's folks blocking his display case of Lincolns, when he sees me coming, he tells them all to move out of the way. Then he makes SURE I have a chair to sit right in front of that case. LOLOLOLOL

If you have a stack laid out it's indication that someone is wanting to buy. Same with baskets and carts in stores. If it's in your hand you have first claim to it. Putting it back means it's free game for others - that's how I see it.
