So today I went down to the bank and asked if they have any halves. It has been pretty dry lately so I took a break. Anyway, the woman goes I have 3 but they are written on. I go i'll take em anyway! So she goes behind to get them and goes oh here's a roll. She then begins to open it and BAM I see the glimpse of silver. Just as she goes oh these are not the ones with writing she goes to put them back. I go i'll take those please and she goes ok 10$. So I open them up fully and found 10 liberty Walking halves, 8 franklins, & 2 1964 kennedys. It was a very fun day. :D Does anyone know how much the coins would go for in silver content? Although I just really like them and was so excited to put them in my album.

The melt value of those at this moment is a cool $126.81. Lucky dog!

EDIT: Google "Silver Coin Melt Value Calculation," you'll find the website, you can see it for yourself.

Congratulation.
I never been so lucky.
Where is your bank? I might go there one day.
Just kiddin.

I called US Bank around my place, they said they have 20 of them.
I grab $ 10 and went to pick it up.
But the lady (I shouldn't call her lady) said if you open an account over here, I can give you more. How many you have, I asked. I can give you $ 50.-. I asked again, can I see some? She show me two rolls, when I open it I saw Silver edges. I know what I saw. She notice my expression. I only brought $ 10.-. So, I asked her if I can buy $ 10.- first. She said, just come back and open an account. Trust me, I keep it for you. I came back in 2 hour, open account and she gave me $ 50.-. Got home excited, no Silver at all. She kept it for her self. I asked her, she said that was all she has. Bummer! I close my my account the following month. It made me mad.

Spetti2000,
Congrats on the great stroke of luck at your local bank! To find that variety of half dollars in one roll leads me to believe some youngster got into gran dads dresser drawer, with out him knowing!

You guys have me a bit confused. What are halves? Can I get them anywhere? This sounds really interesting.

or, times are harder and people are spending all they have; including silver coins they saved. I've posted this many times: as a customer service manager for Hannaford back in 1989/90 (economic slump) I found lots and lots of silver coins in the tills I audited.

Samuel, the tellers can be cruel, sometimes. Unless you were mistaken about those silver edges (and, I'm not saying I think you were so mistaken), that was very cruel of that teller. You did absolutely the right thing by closing down that account. The big thing you should take from that unfortunate experience, though, is, don't you dare take it personally! They treat us all the same way. Young or old. Even if you're extremely bright and handsome and have a fantastic personality, like me.

Really? Why would that be illegal? It seems like we used to have a few bank tellers here on the forum and I think they would buy stuff out when it came through.

the part that is illigal, said the corporate manager, is that if there is money on hand in their tray and they DO NOT give that to a customer. I know you can buy it out of the tray, no problem. but it was sitting in the tray. as if there were 50 pennies in a tray, if they are there, the teller has a duty responsibiilty to give the customer what they need. just like the above mentioned situation. if she bought them herself and then took them out of the tray, I'm sure it is legal, still bugs me, but legal. if you asked for those coins, and she refused, thats wrong. bring the manager over and tell them to hand them over, doesn't matter if shes saving them for later, etc.. the money is the banks, not hers/his... until they buy it, doesn't matter WHAT you have in that tray.
