Any Ideas on a fair trade. The halves are silver. Don't know specific dates just yet. Would be based strictly on bullion value. Supposed to go check it out tomorrow. At first I was thinking 3 halves to 1 Maple, but am wondering if the Maples should have a bit of a premium. Other wise I can buy the halves at 11x face value. All input is appreciated. Thanks.

Stacking half dollars actually got me into coin collecting as I wanted to buy as much cheap silver as I could afford and found you could buy lots of them on *Bay at spot or less and before I knew it I had a nice stack of beautiful old coins.

The silver halves are 0.3 ounces each so if they are just bullion quality coins you would be trading 1 ounce of silver for 0.9 ounces of silver. Some people like holding pure silver and would place a premium on the Maples so personally I wouldn't make that trade. If I had a local source of halves at 11x face I would just buy them all, you would be getting them under their silver value.

Four to one would be a fair trade since the middle ground between bid/ask on melt silver for the halves would give you approximately the middle ground on bid/ask melt for the maples.

There's merit in the maples since they usually trade closer to spot with less margin built in and often go a bit higher since some people do collect them which adds a coin value.

If the halves are true beaters, it's a good enough trade.

Thanks for the help guys.I ended up keeping my Maples and buying the halves at last weeks price! They are not in the greatest shape.... dates range from 1940 - 1966. My first batch of 50 cent halves. I think its a great start!
