I would have to agree Jim,These auctions I speak of are local, and not from ebay.I figure if they are going through the effort of trying to sell on ebay, they would have picked through the good ones already. But,sometimes people around here sell them just to sell them as junk.Sometimes you can find something good. For instance,I paid three dollars for a mixed bag of wheaties and ?,although it's not much to anyone, but I've found a few silver dimes,a couple of V-nickels,and such.To me..Treasure!!And it's exciting, wondering what you're going to end up with..For $3.00,who could complain.I noticed in the catalog,as far as I could see, there were no "key dates. So I don't figure they will end up in a grab bag,Bbbuuutt, you never know :) Does this get anybody else going?Or am I just silly? Thanks for all the responses,I've enjoyed them all.
Ps..Jim,I'll be emailing you,sn31.

They are overpriced and send damaged coins. I signed up for the ASE club when I first started collecting coins a year and a half ago. I didn't know any better. I was getting, what I thought were beautiful ASE's, that is until I opened them up, only to discover that many had severe nicks and scratches in them. The prices were twice, sometimes three times as much as what I was seeing on ebay and those were NGC certified MS-69 ASE's. I would not recommend them, this is just my opinion and experience. I got out of the club after about 4 months.

Good point Irishraider, I had completely forgotten to mention the quality of the ASEs I got from Littletons. I didn't expect MS69s for the price, and three of them looked just fine, but one had some nasty marks on it that looked like it was from bumping up against the reeded edge of another one. The fifth had a big gouge out of it about the size of a pencil eraser. Both problems right in the field about two o'clock, very noticeable. I suppose that factor should be mentioned, there aren't any free lunchs so if you get a deal like that don't expect everything to be perfect. All in all though, for the price with the free shipping, I was happy with the deal.

I think they would do better and retain more members if they packaged and treated the coins they send out better. You do get these special little trade in dollars when you buy stuff but you have to have alot to mean anything. IMHO even if they fixed the things with the coin damage they would still be overpriced compared to other sources. Perhaps, I have become too much of an ebay addict to properly comment on Littleton. With that said, I have not been too pleased with things I have gotten from ebay lately either. I have been going to my local coin shops more and I am even hoping that this community will be a good source also. Whatever your collecting endeavor I hope you can attain it because it is so joyful to get beautiful works of art in such a small form. I am the happiest in my life when Saturday after payday arrives and I am on my way to the coin shop.
