We have lived in Delta, Colorado since 1967. Delta is the county seat of Delta County. Other Delta County communities incude Cedaredge, Hotchkiss, Paonia and a few very small communities.

Today I traveled to my favorite coin store in Grand Junction, and was looking through banknotes. One, in beautiful condition, immediately caught my eye.

It was a 1929 $20 United States banknote. What made it stand out was what was printed on the front, left side. It was issued by "The First National Bank of Paonia Colorado"

The seriel number was also really something: B000074A.

I was born in neighboring Mesa County, in Grand Junction. The Paonia banknote I looked at will probably be the closest to "home" I will ever see.

The coin store owner isn't interested in selling the Paonia banknote at this time, but I had him tag it with my name so that should he want to sell he will know I would be interested.

What a piece of local history. I hope that one day I will own it. If not, at least I have a copy of it, and got to handle it a bit.
