Don't look at my Dansco Lincoln and Mercury albums much as I am a basic Morgan collector and anything needed in the Dansco's will not be purchased soon. I keep them in a ziplock bag which helps protect them but I wanted better protection. Behold the wife's idea, "Why don't you vacuum seal them like you do everything else". So I vacuum sealed them. I have a commercial vacuum sealer for food items. Also took a few new non-tarnished coins and sealed them as they were and am putting them in my garage where there is a fair amount of humidity and possible corrosion to see what happens to the sealed coins in the future. Your thoughts on this. Has anyone else vacuum sealed their coins? I did leave the albums in the ziplocks when I sealed them but with the top open so the air could get pulled out.

I've heard of others here on the forum using vacuum-sealers, it's not weird at all. Anything that makes it hard for oxygen and other atmospheric gases to get to your coins can only be good. The only concern might be the plastic, but even if it's the kind of plastic that might damage coins, no reaction should happen if air and moisture can't get in.

The only drawback I would have with it is the difficulty in getting at the coins and re-sealing them up again afterwards; I actually look at all my coins too often for that to be a practical option for me.

Hey - that's a great idea! I'm near the ocean and I'm concerned - I have some old German marks that are oxidizing... I think I might just go get a vacuum sealer for all of the coins I've found oxidation on!

Great idea, edgman! Thank you!

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but since I'm new to the community, I've been catching up on many previously discussed topics, and began reading a few concerning coin storage.

I have a FoodSaver vacuum sealer and tried it with a few of my coins:

The device works quite well. There are larger bags available that could be used for small albums and folders. I may try that next.

The 2009D Roosevelt completed my date-mint set back to 1916 (not 1916D, or any 2018 though). The 1955D Washington quarter completed my date set of quarters back to 1932 (no 2018 yet). The Franklins I inherited.
