I just wondered what is meant by "large jewels" on a 1983 penny?
Does anyone have a picture of one, or could you explain where to
look on the crown for a large jewel?

I've never heard of large jewels on the 1983 cent. Perhaps you're thinking of the near/far beads varieties?

Troy, There is no such variety. I'm almost as new here as you are but I find your posts have contributed very little value to any discussion.

First off, your 15 average posts per day on a forum that only averages about 8 posts per day just screams you're spamming. A look at your posts confirms it:

* On a topic about 2010 magnetic/nonmagnetic cents, you give an opinion of mint yearly losses on cent coin productions.
* On a topic about 2006 cent varieties, you made 2 posts 2 minutes apart, rather than editing the initial post. One post answered a question that had been answered to satisfaction a month and a half earlier.
* On a topic discussing whether a particular nickel was an error or man made, you posted twice within 5 minutes, both of which broke site rules and were edited by staff.
* On a topic asking for pictures between dime varieties of a certain year, your only contribution is that you spent one.
* On a topic discussing the legitimacy of an "11 cent coin", your only contribution is to say you've "seen one before".

And the one that takes the cake:
* On a topic about coin errors, you accused someone of theft from a government institution.

I'm sorry to say this, and I'm sorry to windychimes for having to post this here in this thread, but I think it needs to be said to avoid the degradation of the quality of this forum. I hope you see this message in the way in which it is intended - written as constructive criticism in order to help maximize the enjoyment of everyone who uses this forum. It's a great place to learn and to share your knowledge with others.

So that said, welcome to the forum and I hope it turns out to be a positive experience for you!

splatto, Welcom,e to the forum! You have less posts than Troy, but my welcome is for both.
I am from the US, and there is much to be learned from the general subject: coin collecting> I am as new as anyone else, in that respect, and when I read the first post, I, too, was wondering what was meant. I have several references on Canadian oins, both large and small cents, in particular. The other denominations don't interest me that much.
Teroy, I see a very familiar trend, and as you will see, as you get more experience, that we can say a lot, in a lot less words, and still get the message across. Don't feel bad, because we are human, and no two are alijke, (which is a blessing in itself). You are where you, like I will learn much about our great hobby. Again welcome!

Well, by the looks of things, this guy is false advertising on ebay and breaking ebay policy( he has 3 of these "large jewel" pennies on there for crying out loud) so why are no coin experts doing anything about it so that uneducated coin collector will not falsely buy things that are claimed to be errors/varieties when they are nothing more than a regular coin?

Troy, I know nothing about the Crown, and it's jewels, but I suppose that it does NOT have any "removable' jewels, so it can't be what is meant.
I think the reference might be to "near, and far beads", possibly.
The references to the "jewels, and Pearls" are in the Crowns of the differnt Monarchs, as far as I know. They are one of the diagnostics used for grading.
Now, on the Vickys, the Jewel on the front of the "tiara/crown' will bumpo are even combine with the bead in the circle, and at the samtime the lower point of te bust will "hover' over tha area of the "C". It depends where it is, in determining various things, among which is the OBV number. There is much more, but I am not that well imnformed. I suggest you check the "Canadian coppercoins,.com" forum, and ask amony others Bill in Burl, Bosox, Dan in crystal lake, or Ron turner. All of them can point you in the right direction.

A fix was made to holders of the two beads at the front of the crown for a second time. These changes were made until the end of 1983.

During the year 1983, it perceives that the effigy was not the relief he needed. By cons, it is too late to get the fixes that will be corrected with a new effigy in 1984 which lasted until 1989.
