Hi all,

I've been trying to replace a very shiny Bust half(bought before I found this great forum) with a more natural looking one (well natural looking to the untrained eye).

I was wondering what your opinions of this coin is? I am not sensitive so let me have it :)

Great coin for the price oober. It is a late die state of Overton #111 if that makes any difference to you. Congrats.

I'd say save your money and wait for one in a better grade.

There's some much nicer ones available for not much more money.

I agree whole heartedly about "going for the best grade that's affordable" , but I didn't want it to embarrass the other coins in my 1st effort at a type set.

I probably should have mentioned it is going into a f-vf 19th century type set.

:)

I appreciate the comments though, thanks.

Many collectors start off with lower grade coins and continually upgrade their collections. Yes, coins of better condition are available, but not very many at the price paid, and every bust half will find a home somewhere if only for a little while. This is what keeps many collections going, and the collector interested until that AU can be attained. Not all collectors are affluent enough to afford the AU-UNC coin right off the bat. Saving money for that big purchase is more difficult than collecting lower grades at more frequent intervals, and upgrading more frequently as well. This method provides more action and continued interest and learning possibilities.

I am not at all proficient at grading, but since this one is going into a F-VF type set, I have to ask; is this a Fine? (My guess would have been VG at best).
Rest in Peace

Maybe VG-10, I don't really know though. I don't trust this seller, however. It also looks to have pin scratches.

With the way that rev looks VG is stretching it. Looks like its had a very harsh cleaning as well. Thumbs down on this one.
