not sure if this is even appropriate, but
i just opened an account with wells fargo because I know they use brink/shrink wrap their rolls.
i already have a box ordered and waiting for me tomorrow. does any one else bank with them and have had any luck searching halves with them?
i know it all depends on the area, whats in the hopper so to speak at the separating department, or something..
just wondering if brinks sorts their coins differently than N.F. string n sons..
thanks sd

I dump all my coins at a bank that sends them to Brinks so I'm not interested in Brinks rolls from my area. With that said, you may get grandpa's hoard dumped into a sorting bin. I'm not sure where the N.F. String & sons coins come from though...

I have found several proofs and 3 or 4 1964's in brinks rolled halves.

I suspect that boxes of halves keep getting stuffed into a vault, but unlike the guy that stocks bread at the grocery store, they do not rotate their product. Last one in equals first one out (halves are a lot heavier than loaves of bread, and there isn't the freshness issue). If the entire coins collecting community could put together a massive campaign to order boxes and boxes and boxes, then maybe the back ones might come out.

really? they are just sitting at brink somewhere waiting to be shipped out when a bank orders some?

I believe that's how it works, they have a central location and different banks order what they need, then the courier service delivers,,,,could be wrong though

yes, I believe that's the general method of how coin orders work. I bank at wells fargo but have never gotten a box of halves from them. I use wachovia who would get string and sons. the manager who handed me the box said they came straight from the fed. the wells I banked at before moving to my current location would order halves for me, which is why I went through wachovia. I haven't tried getting halves from my current wells fargo. let me know how your box goes, maybe i'll try one of my local branches.

I'm an employee of Wells and get minimum 3 boxes week. My luck with them is minimal. I average probably one to two silver coins per box. The most I have gotten out of a box was 6. Have pulled a couple Franklins and also a 1923 cent. The boxes come directly from the fed and are yellow and white string and sons wrappers. I dump back at wells as well as they bag and send back to the fed. My question is like many, if I have searched my own dump already. I figure some time someone is going to dump a lot of silver and hopefully I'm the recipient! Happy hunting!
