Pleased with the results of some, not pleased with others. However, they overgraded (in my opinion) many of the more expensive ones, so it balances out.

1. 1917-D type 1 quarter...grade: UNC details cleaned.

My impression: Boo....the color may be slightly slightly off on the obverse as my dealer pointed out, but I think they were harsh on it. At worst they should have netted it to MS-61 FH.

2. 1851-C $5 gold...grade: XF-45

Overgraded. However, I do believe its problem free. This was the most valuable coin in the lot.

3. 1808 50c...grade: XF details harshly cleaned

I really disagree with this one...its been cleaned in spots, but it does have AU details. Weaker early bust strike. Not harshly cleaned IMO.

4. 1873 Arrows 25c...grade: Au details harshly cleaned

Right on

5. 1892-O 50c...grade: AU-58

Slightly overgraded, would have given it a 53 or 55 personally

6. 1892-S 50c...grade: VG 8

Right on

7. 1866-S no motto 50c...grade: FA2

They got this one wrong, its blatantly messed with, and didnt get a details grade

8. 1901-S 50c...grade: VG-10

They should have graded it F-12, it has all of liberty and the rest of the detail is strong. I'm thinking they were just plain careless with this one

9. 1821 small date 10c...grade: XF details damaged

Was hoping for AU details damaged, I think it just barely makes it, but its a close call

10. 1875 20c...grade: VF-25

right on

11. 1909-O 50c...XF45

right on

12. 1866-S no motto 50c....VG-10

Dealers were hoping for F-12, I thought it was VG-10. So, fair grade

13. 1874-S 10c...UNC details cleaned

right on

14. 1875 20c...VF-35

Was hoping for XF, but probably netted down because of a weak strike or something else

15. 1871 $1...VF details obv rim damage

Right on, its a higher VF, but I know they dont include number grades

16. 1806 25c...AG details bent

No way this is bent, the wear is uneven, but I scrutinized this coin to make sure it wasnt. I think they took one look at the uneven wear and just assumed it was bent. So, they messed up here IMO.

17. 1849-O H10c...VF details environmental damage

No way this is VF, easy XF, maybe XF-45. I think they didnt take into account the weak strike or examine it closely, it appears to have a lot less detail than it really does at first glance

18. 1811/10 50c O-101....XF details improperly cleaned

No way this is cleaned, they missed the boat with this one

19. 1865-S H10c...XF-40

Borderline XF40/XF45 IMO, but either way is fair. Fair grade.

20. 1840-O drapery H10c...VF details environmental damage

I see perhaps some very slight change in patina on the back, barely visible at all. IMO though this coin doesn't have environmental damage, I checked it out thoroughly. I think this was a miss.

Then there were two other coins returned for glue residue and obverse residue (not PVC, some streaky weird stain type stuff). I was aware of both, but was hoping they'd be conserved...so not sure what happened.

Anyway, definitely a mixed bag here, going to resubmit a few...particularly that 1811/10 half which I was pretty disappointed with. I got lucky on a few though. Will take some pics later.

just goes to show how fallable TPGs are for grading. I really only consider them for genuine/nongenuine.. Ill grade it myself.

After getting coins back from NGC myself, I think it is absurd that for the money that ends up spent on their services,(about $30/coin), they don't spend more time looking at a coin. I guess for them it is much easier to slap a "Details Label" on the coin and send it back.
