Does anyone know of a comparative reference for toughras? For instance I have problems distinguishing between Ottoman/Egyptian coins, and those from Hyderabad or Tunisia.
Toughras are designed to be visually impressive, not readable. I've never tried to "read" one to find out where/when a coin is from, since other details on the coin (such as the mint name) are often easier to read. If a coin is so badly damaged or worn that other markings of origin are removed or illegible, then the toughra will likely be impossible to read, too.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
