Complaining to the main office will probably do more harm than good. My local Grocery store has a small Wells Fargo Branch in it. I got the same no room in the vault for that box story. I complained to the Branch manager and her put me in touch with their head office. Where I was told that wells Fargo policy was not to accept change from customers... I now make it a point to use Wells Fargo branches as my dump banks. Those branches that have not got the message from head office that is... Buy my boxes from my credit union and Chase and dump everything at WF.

You said you went to a location you don't normally frequent. If their vault was full you should have bought a few boxes, who knows what you would find in those boxes and then they would have room for a few of your already searched boxes . Also,do CU's have to follow the same laws as banks? John1

I'm kind of with Graceoutcast. What if their vault was full. I'd have asked what they had in it, maybe we can make a trade. :)

I had the same idea as John1, if their vault is too full, who knows what they have sitting in their for a long time? Bags of Morgans sitting in the corner (one of my favorites dreams!), or other older rolls which have not seen the light of day in quite a spell.

I've never had a problem at my CU ... I'm talking 22 years and counting ... but then I never tried to deposit a heavy box of halves. I'd suggest a heart-to-heart chat with the manager (after you calm down) and find out what the real problem was. Try to see it from their viewpoint, too. Then make a decision as to whether you want to continue your business with them (do you really want to go through the expense and hassle of moving your car loan somewhere else?) and tell them straight out if you decide to terminate the loan. They'll appreciate the feedback, and if they're like most credit unions, they'll try to keep your business.

Whatever happened to "The customer is always right and Anything to please the customer?" Have those concepts gone by the wayside along with common sense in this country?Geez. I would get straight on the horn and have a chat with the President of this credit union, wherever he or she may be.You would be surprises what climbing the chain of command can get you.

The CU that I am presently using odes not accept rolls anymore, that is what the change machine (like coinstar) is for in the lobby. No surcharge for CU members. I have not asked if they will provide rolls of coins, although they do not provide empty rolls anymore.

Completely different situation. He was there to pay a bill, not just turn in change. They should have accepted his coins as payment.

As I've said, an eggplant in one chase branch denied my deposit of rolled coins, what added to the eggplants dishonesty, was this wasn't the first time I'd deposited there, at the time, I'd been going there for months(usually 1-2 times a week)and then one day it comes over to the counter and asks "do use have an business account?" I know it already knew I didn't, I said no, then it said "you can't deposit coins here anymore, it's chase policy" I said fine, then after inquiring in another branch, they told me there, they've NEVER heard of a chase policy like that before, typical eggplant, it was lying to me

I'm not 100% on this, but I think that if they refused to accept your money that was to be used to pay a debt (car loan, etc) that had the lien holder as the credit union, then I think that payment should be nullified since you made due diligence and made an effort to pay. There's also a video on the internet about a young who tries to retrieve his car from a private impound yard. he attempts to pay the release fee in pennies. the owner or person in charge refused the payment. the police were called and told the owner that he either takes the payment of pennies or has to give the car back since a sincere attempt was made to pay the fee in legal tender. the owner finally took the penny payment. so I think you have a valid argument for them to either accept your deposit or to credit you the payment you intended to pay.

I'm not trying to , after my encounter with the eggplant at chase bank, I called them and asked just how much latitude does a branch manager (or for that fact, the bank itself)has in regards to an account they service? the bank, the branch manager and probably any employee can refuse ANY type of Deposit they want, I've heard of people taking their property tax's due down to the courthouse, all in cents, they refused to accept it

Yes, that is BS for that CU to not accept the coin for a payment. They could have made arrangements , they are able to transport coin across town on their own, if needed. Those vaults are tiny. My wife works for a CU. I used to dump my coin there, until recently, in $500 bags. Depending on what day of the week, (they ship/receive once a week), 4 bags of dimes may fill the vault. This one is the size of a small refrigerator. I lost my dumping privledges because the vault count kept coming up short, no fault of mine,(I don't count my hand-rolled or machine rolls, just dump into bags, no problems in two years).
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Thanks to all for your feedback. I guess I was more surprised, than anything else, at the lack of decent customer service. The teller wasn't outright rude, but she was not friendly at all, which never helps a situation. I'm not a demanding customer by any means, but to refuse someone's payment is never acceptable. The teller should have accepted the payment and asked her manager what to do with the overflow from the vault. If the vault is that small, where a single box of coins will not fit in there, I see that as a problem. I was a commercial teller for 2 years and have seen some big deposits: 10 boxes of quarters, $10,000 in singles that I had to run through the counter machine and various other tedious deposits. But I never complained because it was my job to service customers and this is what I was paid to do. I would never have inconvenienced the customer by denying their deposit. It is better to inconvenience the bank than a customer. Unfortunately, I did not have time today, but I will call and inform the manager of the situation. Maybe they will see this situation as a stepping stone to improve their customer service.
