I got a couple coins the other day as part of a lot I bought on ebay. There was a Buffalo nickel and a 1907 Indian Head cent in a little frame stuck to a piece of felt with a couple indian stamps. Both coins seem unusually shiny. It's probably just wishful thinking but I'm wondering if they could be proofs. I don't know how to tell if they are or not. I assume you'll tell me that they're just cleaned but I can hope. I'll get some pics of the IHC if the buffalo turns out to be anything.

Thanks,

Phil

Definitely not a proof. Most likely polished, or the lighting used to take the photo makes it look that way.

Gotta remember a proof is struck at a higher pressure and twice, I think for longer too, and will have very sharp details. The details on this coin are very flat, this is most prevalent on the fur of the buffalo. Which leads me to believe its been polished.
