Never having been to one? No. But have fun and don't be shy. Ask, ask ask. I feel that numismatists are amongst the friendliest 'geeks' ('nerds', 'saddos' - sorry but I don't know the correct terminology) you could find. And let us know how it goes.

As a general rule if in a small town or area of little crime, no problem. If in a large city or high crime area, do not give out any personal information regardless of who wants what. If they require your address, phone number, etc. just say thanks and see you in the future and leave. If in a small town or low crime area, have fun. Talk to anyone that will talk to you. As a rule a coin club is full of people that want to know you, trade or buy coins for a decent price, switch information. Just always remember that when it comes to coins, guns, knives, stamps, etc. never give out personal information if you don't have to.

Whatever you do ... DON'T TELL THEM YOU GOLF! I get looks of disdain when I mention this around numismatic circles. Stand up, introduce yourself and briefly explain your interests. That will let folks know you're approachable. Be friendly and smile. You'll have lots of fun.

I take my son to his coin club once a month. First, there's a lot of milling around, with people showing, trading, buying, and selling. Everyone drops something in the grab bag when they arrive. Then there is old business (including the grab bag report), and the raffling off of three Morgan dollars and the grab bag. The grab bag ticket is free; the most recent winner has to report what was in the bag. Then there is a break for more milling around, doughnuts, and fruit punch, followed by the auction. My son helps run the auction items to the winners and collects the money to take back to the table. We're usually there for about 2 hours or a little more.

Oh Oh, I am in trouble. I will try not to let them know. My town has about 17,000 people so I don't expect a problem but I will take all the advice and put it to good use. I am looking forward to tonight. I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks,

Well I just got back from the coin club meeting and I had a pretty good time. I went ahead and joined, only $10.00 a year. There was about 20 people there. Old business, followed by new business, then a 50/50 Raffle. They had a auction where I bought a 1853 Half Dime in I would say a little under VG-8. There is some scratches on the obverse, maybe from a cleaning. I can make out a couple of letters on the shield. My next purchase was a 1853 Dime, which I would grade about the same. No scratches, but I can barely make out two letters on the shield. Finally I bought a 1853 Quarter. I would grade this one VG-8, maybe a little less due to some pit marks on the obverse. Can make out 5 of the letters in Liberty clearly. I paid $38.00 for all three of the coins. I think I did OK. Here is a link to some pics........ http://picasaweb.google.com/wornslick/20100518#

Problem I have Wornslick, is that I can't find a coin club here in the Minneapolis/St.Paul metro area of Minnesota. If anybody happens to know of one please send me a PM. Until than be sure to let us know how the coin club experienced worked out for you!

i think the only personal information that should be shared with strangers or occasional associates is an email address.
