This is a wonderful coin but I have yet to identify it. Thank you!

The only thing I can tell you is something to hopefully move you in the right direction.

Two words; Athena and Owl.

I must have seen that somewhere at some point and that came immediately to mind when I looked at your coin.
I hope it proves helpful. Just google athena owl...awe heck, I just went and did it. I wanted you to have all the fun but....

From what I have read I believe that you have a modern reproduction of an Athenian Owl Tetradrachm made from brass. The original coins were made from silver.

Here is a site about the originals
http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ca....asp?vpar=66

and a site about reproductions
http://rg.ancients.info/owls/replicas.html

Brass repros are being sold on ebay, saw a couple of search hits on those.

If I'm wrong I'm sure a resident expert will put me in my place!

(edit) I looked at two of the ebay auctions and, unfortunately, it's exactly what you have. Take a look;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...250594729959

Sorry about that.

You're welcome. I was surprised that I actually knew what it was! Amazing what sticks in your head sometimes. Sorry it wasn't real though. But you DO have a GENUINE imitation Athenian Owl Tetradrachm! Now all you need is a GENUINE imitation Walnut Presentation Case to put it in!
