my mom went down to her bank to empty out her safe deposit box. she said she had a small collection of silver coins that she got after her parents passed away. She gave them to me today. A very small stash, but still pretty cool. 15 Walking Liberty halves, nothing noteworthy. 6 Franklins, nothing noteworthy, but I did fill a few holes. A couple of silver Washington quarters10 Mercury dimesa few buffalo nicks. nothing special, one no date which i'll try to restore tonight. the real meat of the stash was: 9 morgans, ranging from 1879 to 1921, no CC's. Some are in really nice AU condition, and I did find one truly noteworthy piece, a 1902S in a strong VF (possibly EF) condition. I'll get pics up soon.

Here are the pics of the 1902S Morgan. I'd like some opinions on grade for this piece. I'm calling it VF-20. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as nice as a couple of the earlier pieces from 1879 and 1882. But I'm still pretty pleased with this piece.

Jedi, I'd grade your coin obverse: VG10 reverse: G6 to VG8 When I type, "how to grade Morgan dollars" into my web browser, the first hyperlink shown is a link to coin auctions help dot com. It shows images of the Morgan at different grades. Check it out.

Congrats on the new acquisitions! Its always very cool to get some coins that have been in your family, moms hands, grandparents hands, etc.
I'd probably go either VG8 or VG10 on the 1902S - still a very nice piece, with more sentimental value than monetary.

I would go with VG-8. It is a really nice coin but I dont think its VF material. This is such a nice find - never know what peoople around you have. It was nice of your mom to give it to you

yeah, after I looked at the pics myself, I realized it was much lower than my first VF impression. I'm still pretty impressed that this came out of such a small stash.

Here's one of the nicer morgans, an 1879S. Apparently the story is that my grandparents were given a lei for an anniversary that someone had made out of 50 Morgans. My grandparents then divided the coins up among their 5 kids, which is how my mom got 10. I wonder if my aunts and uncles still have theirs.
