Dave I didnt know you were so sensitive ?

jim these type of die cracks really dont carry much of a premium,, Unless they get a catchy name ,, and then shameful amounts of self promotion,, or if the person who collects them just cant resist a good die crack !!

Hello metalman, I am just now reading the "die cracks are cool" post and have to ask about the pictures. What type of equipment are you using to take the great close-up photos of the coins?
Thanks for the info rick,

berry

Hi Berry

My equipment is really pretty simple,, Konica/Minolta Dimage Z2 4.0 mega pixels ,macro ,super macro .

My pictures do not compare to some of the folks here,, I can tell you that.

when I can I use natural sun light for lighting by far the best for true color .

The best way I have found to get the close ups is to photo the whole coin at optimun distance to get a very sharp image and then crop and size the close up .

Hi Rick, I use a Vivitar, 3.3 mega pixels and it has a macro. I tried taking pictures with it using a tripod and have tried different types of lighting, but still can't get good photos. I also set the whiteness meter to its optimum setting for coins and still can't get good photos. As a general all around camera its fine, but not made to photo coins in detail.

Berry

Hey scoutjim99, I spent two tours in RVN.

The die crack really adds no or very little value to the coin,, but it is a Mint State 42-S I paid MS-63 Money for it .

The Die crack was a bonus !!

Okay. I'm learning. Nice coin. No it is not the same coin but thats the best $ I have seen in a while. Nice centering. My coin has crack down the left side of the middle of the U serif spliting it and making it look like a double die at that letter. It is centerd thru S similar to yours. My die crack is a fairly straight line. It is a nice strong crack rim to rim thru middle of coin. Wish I had pics. I saw another one in mid 60s like it. Never again cept the one I have. May be same coin. Need to get pics up. You have a real beauty. Thanx for showing.

P.S. Check out my questions on 1942/1D quarter. Showed it to a few dealers 10+ yrs ago. We be not sure if it is 42/42 or 42/41. Initial hubbing was off and closest to planchet. Curviture does not look like that of the two. Sits inside and slightly left of upper loop of 2. Maybe the upper left curviture of roman numerial 1. Now this be a rare coin to date. Monster Veds. Need to figure out how to show this stuff. Thanx again. gusp

Hi Gusp

I sent you an email,, you can send the pics to me ,,I will post them up for you .

What is the problem your having uploading the pics ?

one of the most frequent problems is that the file name cannot contain any symbols,, letters and numbers only ,,no spaces.

If you click on the reply to topic,, and check below the dialog box click on the camera Icon,, click browse ,select your file, and click upload ,, files size below 100KB there should be no problem uploading directly to the forum.
