... it don't look like gold to me, but I'm somewhat partial to US gold dollars. eg: Type I 1849-1854; Type II 1854-1856; Type III 1856-1889... <<<see, IBLearnin'!

Anyway, it looks to be an interesting token/medallion/medal/slug/bad copy or counterfeit/etc. Again anyway, I just wanna know if this is old or new or what is it. I just like the design and feel of it and I'm wondering if anyone here has any such knowledge on this type thing. If it is recent, I have no interest in the item, but if it's a period bronze/copper piece... it interests me.

Your thoughts?...

The auction says "No Date" and I had to laugh looking at it. Please don't bid, gold dollars are cool, that thing is not.

bherring1964... I took your advice and probably didn't overpay for "something".

It went for more than I thought, because I don't think it's gold or of any significant karat weight anyway. I was hoping it was some sorta 8-10 kt store card or token at least 50 or more years old.

With plenty of views and no such info... the forum has spoken with mainly silence... which confirms your viewpoint.

I learned quite awhile back that this forum's opinion(<for lack of a better word that would be escaping me at the moment)... can be worth it's weight in gold. Sure... sometimes I don't actually make cents... but ya know what I mean.

>>>edit>>> The first pix I posted sometime back... hunting these at spot can be quite fun!

I recently attended a coin show and took some gold pieces to sell for a friend. There were many dealers there, some of whom declined an interest in buying gold. I found one dealer who'd had extensive experience with gold, being an ANA member who'd taken their counterfeit course. Highly recommended by the bourse chairman, he bought most of the gold, including the counterfeits; this, but for three, one dollar pieces which the seller opted to retain. Personally, I thought that at least one of them was genuine, and possibly another. As it turned out, all three were phony - made in Beirut, Lebanon about forty years ago, I was told. I went to "school" at the dealer's table for half an hour. Great guy! The moral it seems is to buy gold from a reputable dealer.

That looks more like a token of some sort than a coin!
