right you are, maudry! I lost several days in that area. you might try Ste Antics world collections.(38 rue Vivienne) tel: 01 40 13 93 69. don't go during lunch, as some shops are closed(they take VERY long lunch-times). You always have the Mint, gift shop there. Also, all around the City they have vending machines where you can pick-up medals and such for a few bucks.

The CGB-CGF guys are at 36 rue Vivienne; they are the authors of the "Le Franc" books and have an extensive catalog of offerings. They are unwilling to buy from foreign visitors, but will certainly sell. I've had spotty experiences dealing with them in the past but they are certainly willing to let you look at different things. There's no negotiation on price with them, or so was my experience at least, and their prices tend to hew pretty closely to the prices in their catalog.
A couple bits of advice: 1) ignore shops in the Bourse area that are merely dealers in bullion. These guys by and large have no idea of numismatics or how to handle coins; I'll never forget the guys who pulled out 5FF 'ecus' and polished them up before my eyes with dirty rags thinking they were piquing my interest. 2) Don't be discouraged by the generally unpleasant demeanor of a number of the dealers. In the US, coin shops tend to be friendlier places, with dealers eager to find out what you want and work with you. That's not been my experience coin shopping in Paris, or even in smaller cities in France. Because of apparent security concerns, all of these guys keep their stock out of reach behind counters and pull things out for you to look at. One dealer you might look for is "Numisaisne". Small shop, but he's got lots of supply behind the counter and is helpful. He was willing to negotiate on price as well.
Good luck, and report back! -SCS

Quick Report Back on the shopping in Paris, Found the shops alright, taxi experience from where I was in Massy costed me 120 Euros return to get to the shops, went past all the ones I could find, Did not find any ZAR coins, so returned empty handed and less 120 Euros to show. Better luck next time. I am going to South Africa in the end of July, now there is the main source for ZAR's, will probably spend everything I take with me. Thanks to all for the valuable directions and inputs.
