I've been searching quite a few hunting camps lately. Mostly I find a bunch of junk like bottle caps, empty beer cans, shell casings, and a coin every now and then. Today I tried an old camp that was growed over with weeds and such. I found a dime in the 1st 5 minutes which is usually a good sign. Another 10 minutes in I found my 1st ever half dollar, I was excited. It was a 1985-P and I ain't complaining. At 1st I thought it was a colonial coin because it is dark black and brown. It took another hour to find a 2nd dime, clad again, and that was it for the day. 3 hours for 70 cents and it was worth every minute.

Congrats on the half dollar! I haven't found one yet, just pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

I got a good workout today. I found a new hunting camp and a well used one too. Found 1 quarter, 5 dimes, 19 pennies, and 35 shell casings. And all the junk in between. My knees and back are starting to tell on me. So I decided to call it a day and drive around for awhile. I found 4 more camps that look well used. The funny thing about these camps is, so many shell casings are several inches down, but all the coins are on the surface or only 1-2 inches down. Doesn't really matter though I'm having fun.

An old timer showed me a hunting camp from decades ago and it hasn't been used since. I wondered out that way this morning and was disapointed by the ground cover. There was about 4 inches of packed leaves that had fell over the years. They were slowly decaying and was very spongey. I went at it for about a half an hour with no results. On the way out I finally got 2 hits side by side. A 69 quarter and a 69 dime. I had silver on the brain all morning. I guess the old timers didn't carry money like they do today. I will keep searching.

Is there anyone in your area, ie, detector store or friend that may help you with setting the machine. You should be having more success than that, don't give up yet, someone will come up with the answer. take care
