Hi All,

I have had this medallion type coin for sometime and am curious to know its origin and meaning.
.

Identification-Of-Coin-Medallion---Curious-!

On one side there is a church and it says "SANT UARIU DI M . SANTO",
On the other side there is something like a nativity scene and the words "APPARIZ . B . V . DI M. SANTO 1589"

The spacings I have indicated on the church side could be incorrect and when I play around with Italian-English translators I can get something like "Sacred Motherly Sanctuaries", and for the word "Appariz" I get "Emergence" in Italian.

So I am presuming it is a commemorative medallion for a birth, possibly of Jesus, and that it is possibly Italian, but would love to know more. Appreciate any help - to satisfy my curiousity atleast

Thanks,
Max

Well it is obviously some kind of religious medal. I would think "APPARIZ . B . V" means appearance of the Blessed Virgin. I suspect but can't prove that DI M Santo is Santo Domingo. I think "SANT UARIU DI M . SANTO" is Sanctuary of Santo Domingo or something like that. The first Church and Convent of the Dominican Order was completed there in 1589. (and collapsed shortly thereafter due to poor foundations.) It was rebuilt and destroyed four more times over the next seventy years.
