I suspect that this little Indian is just severely worn out but, I thought that maybe the forum might think differently. What do you all think? (spots are on scan)

Hi debbie

1879-Indian---Worn-Or-Error?

In the pic I can make out the slightest hint of one cent,, so the coin was struck,, But my guess is that it may have been a filled die, and then wear took the rest of the detail from the reverse.

of course its also possible the someone defaced the coin at sometime in its long history.

Rick

Thanks Rick. The poor thing is almost smooth on the Reverse. To me it looked like it had not been struck but, with it's long history, yes, it's difficult to tell. I only paid a buck for it because I thought that it was interesting. It will fill my 79 hole until I find a much better piece.
