Krause has had difficulty pinning down exactly where they come from; I believe the latest theory is still the one I said in that old thread, that they were made during WWII by Vichy France for use in Indochina. You have two different denominations there; the one on the left is a half-tael, the one on the right is a 1 tael. The left one in the paper flip says 1/2 tael of standard silver (which could be .999 finess) and the other one says 1 tael of standard silver. Tap it to see if they are really silver. **Arrrgh beat me to it sap! I had the window open for too long :D So what would be the writing above the Chinese be? Is it Burmese?
