Has anyone seen the price of these lately? I picked one up a year ago for $40. Stopped by my local shop today and he has been retailing them for the low 70's! This coin is really taking off in price.

Were they just raw dog man? They weren't certified right? I think we are stopping in the local coin shop this saturday. They have a whole showcase dedicated to raw uncertified ASEs. I will see what they are selling theirs for. I know PCGS price guide lists them as $180 in MS-69 but I do not know how realistic their prices are.

Correct, these are just the general uncirculated coin. I can't believe how the price of these has spiked over the past 6 months.

Seventy bucks is the going rate around here BUT.....(there is always a but) the 1996 Silver Eagle is notorious for being a little milky looking when they were released so a dealer has an opt out should you decide to sell off a few. I tried just a few weeks ago after I saw the current prices. My dealer stated it was just a little milky and the $70 price was for clear, white unc.s. Guess he had forgotten I bought the 96 from HIM at raw, clear, white UNC. when I purchased it a while back? I can just about guarantee you if the coin is not exceptional you will be told it is one of the milky ones! Go figure!
