Thought I would share a recent find.
I do not tend to be able to find many errors on the proofs
that I run across. This one I thought was pretty cool.

Nice! Is that a chip behind her head?

I know cracks on business strikes aren't worth anything, but what about proofs? Would they command a small premium supposedly due to the quality control standards?

ScoobyDue,

The thing behind her head looks like it was struck through some wire or thread not sure.
Not sure about a value. But I think you are right as far as
it being worth more because it is a proof. The ones on business strikes look to be quite common.
I am looking around e-bay now and that is all
I see. No Proof errors like this yet.

Edit found one on ebay with obverse die crack starting at $149.00
do not know if this is realistic or just a seller being hopeful

Terry

Die cracks on Proof Coins do command a premium. How much will be determined on how many are found. They are suppose to be caught by Quality Control at the Mint.
I found a die crack on the Professional Life Lincoln Cent that was included in the 2009 silver proof set. Upon request I sent it to Ken Potter, so he could photograph it for an article in Numismatic News. He suggested that I insure it for $250, not knowing how many more would be found. At the time (1) more had been reported.

Shortly after posting this coin. I contacted Ken Potter and he requested
that I send it to him for proper photography for use in one of his
upcoming articles on Die Cracks on Proof Coins.
He asked me to contact him every few weeks to see how things were
coming with the article. I have tried to contact him three times
since he received the coin in early July. I have yet to receive
any response. I was wondering if anyone has heard from him lately
And if he is O.K.? Health Wise,
