I'll tell ya, the recent threads about all the RCM collector stuff, has really given me an upset stomach. Quite frankly, I so disappointed with what the mint is putting out now, that I'm about ready to unload some all of my RCM collector coins. Quite frankly, I buy the stuff, look at it once, then stash it away and only look at it once or twice a year or so. My question to people who have sold portions of their collection before... based on your past experiences, is it more economical to list this stuff on ' ebay', or sell it to dealers who will give you less than what the trends or Charlton is indicating? Some of this stuff is a little more high end, like the 2007 dinosaur coin, the queen mom commemorative dollar, stuff like that. I also have an example of every proof like set with the envelope from 1960 to date I may get rid of as well. I will keep my decimal collection and continue to work on that. Thanks for any advice.

If you're interested in selling a 2005 Mint report nickel ( https://goccf.com/t/64967) I'd be interested. :) I'm interested in some of the Mint sets too

I've unloaded hundreds of pieces over the last year and there is no way to liquidate most of the common stuff that brings you anywhere near the original cost that I am aware of. In my case though, it's all from largish collections I've bought outright so I just liquidate it for whatever it brings via live or online. Let the market decide. I've also put together "lots" mixed in some older silver that isn't as good as what I have and advertised it on Craiglist. Usually three or four thousand worth at a time. The hardest thing I have problems with getting even fair value for are Proof sets and silver dollars. People bought those things in droves and except for a few years no one seems to want them. In terms of high demand items, try Craigs/kijiji first and ebay last. Despite the recent thread despising those of us who melt, I won't sell a single thing under melt and if I cant liquidate it at least at melt it REALLY DOES get melted and returned to me in 1 Kilo silver bar form any time I get more than a 1000 ounces together.

You could always post it in the For Sale section here on the board and see if any members are interested.

Thanks folks..nice logical advise across the board. I think what Ill do is spreadsheet it all, and get some commuications back and forth with you folk, before reaching out on Craigs list.I am totally cognisant that I will never get a trends value for most of this stuff. I can ssure you I'm going to start with all the collector stuff, which have all the COA's and clam shell cases etc, which include every single commerative 1 dollar. Numerous other junk too. I can get some pics together if/when required if theres a big interest prior to an agreement being made. Quite frankley, I'm looking forward to down sizing my collecting a bit, and I'm not sad over it a bit..so far. Thanks

Personally I find the BEST way to unload R.C.M. material is the garbage can. Nobody else gets ripped off, and you start collecting real Canadian coins immediately! Glenn

Dollar1948: You can try Kijiji and Craigslist for free. ebay will sell it with fees. If it doesn't bring you any joy, you might as well sell it and get things you like - best way to collect anything I think. Take your time, if you want to get highest return depending on your situation. I like the PL sets (1954-1967) and I'm going to collect them. I would keep them, but if you don't like them same thing. Just take your time and if you like it you should keep it.

Kijiji has worked the best for me thus far too. It's a slow process though.

I agree Kijiji is slow. Stick to your guns or what you think is fair if you want the best return Dollar1948. Best way to sell is type up the ad in Word and get a picture. Then you can paste the ad in Kijiji or Craigslist or ebay or here and if you have to repost the ad you have done the typing only once.

$1948, if it were me, I'd keep all the 1960-1967 PL sets, as well as anything you have to convince yourself you don't like. There are a lot of "revenue generating" type coins pumped out of the mint, but occasionally they do knock one out of the park.

As 1 cent said keep all your silver proof like sets... I'd like to go a step further and say when you have sold all the RCM stuff.. GET INO THE REAL COINS.. the Vicky's, the Edward's coinage from 1858 up to 1967 in the higher grades (as to what one can afford) as they will always hold their value and most of the key dates always show a $ increase in time... These coins IMO have character, history and are the back bone of our coinage....

I agree with Ugly. Let the market decide the real price. Customer is king. @glenzy1: and to think that error coins used to get tossed in the trash as well!

I have to agree withD. (hope that came out right, I can't see the small text)! Generally speaking, I have to go along with the general consensus, but, in that same area, I have a couple questions: Do the PL sets come in a , sic, holder, or are they like the US mint sets, where the coins are in plastic, or celephane type holders? I have a l;ot of decimal coin sets, PL. but thety are all in single coin wraps.. I assumed they came that way, but again maybe not, because some of them indicate they were cut from a set of coins. Obviously, I bought mt coins as a collection from another collector. I am a bit like Dollar1948, in that I buy, and update my inventory, and set aside the ones I want to check for varieties. Being on a "fixed" income, it is a bit hard to keep up with all the sets. I have a few proof sets, but not a solid series. Being an "older" collectot, I collect "for today', and then let "Father Time' do as he will. I am about to finish my FE/IHC sets, and will then devote my time to my "VICKYS"! The only thing there, is that there is not a posted list of all the varieties, to compare my coin with, so I have to set them aside, and wait for someone to post, and ask what is.....? Then I check to see if it has the same as mine, or more. My only other hope is that "Bill in Burl" never dies, because I would be lost without his knowledge! I know there are others who are devoting much time and effort to this series, and I am happy for them. may their efforts always be positive. Like I said, I am on a fixed income, and have no idea as to how much time I have, BUT, I intend to make the best of it. Well almost the best......I do get tired sitting 12-14 hours a day. In answer, ( my feeble mind just returned), to your question, I would suggesy tou post what you are thinking about getting rid of, here on the forum, and lert us help. then, go for the ones who could care less about the sentimental values. A note to those few of you who don't know, I am legally blind, (Hence my VIVKYS). and not being a typist, my words don't always come out the way intented! Please bear with me. Dick I

Thanks guys..lots of sound advise..Craigs list and Kijiji looks like a good alternative. For security reasons, if I get any bites for this stuff, I may have to insist we meet in the foodcourt at the mall (if the buyer is in Toronto), or up at the bar at Kelseys for a beer..Ill buy. The prooflike sets are in a cellophane envelope, and that is put into an RCM envelope with a COA card. Thanks for the advise..I will hang onto the 1960-1968 silver variations, and get rid of the nickel sets. I've checked them all years ago for the good variations (ie) double yoke, etc. Lots of commerative silver dollars that have gone down in price since they were relased according to Charlton's. Thanks for the advise that I should never sell them lees than spot. Anyway, Ill get them posted on here, as soon as I get all my ducks in a row. I can't wait to dive back into my collection, but strictly at the 1858 and later level. decimal coin level. Ive learnt my lesson..
