So I got mine last night, but freaked out when I opened it! I didn't realize that the background on both the obverse and reverse was deliberately bumpy!! I thought my coin had been warped by some strange force, and was incredibly disappointed!!
When I got home, I was voraciously searching the net for pictures of the coin to see if they were all bumpy like that, and to my great relief, they were :)
hehe... I would have preferred the coin be struck with a smooth mirrorlike background, but I suppose I can live with the bumpy one!

I think the reason they did the bumpy bump surface is to try to imitate the Buffalo nickel, their surface is bumpy like that also

hehehe...If this is really what you wanted, you should have saved yourself a couple hundred dollars and purchased the uncirculated bullion coin. It has what you were looking for!

The U.S. Mint gives the figures of 106,300 of the proof version of the gold buffalo coin sold, out of a max. of 300,000 limit...as of July 5th. They also gave the figure of 110,000 of the uncirculated gold buffalo coins as being sold in the same time frame. These are unlimited in number that can be minted. They also explained that the law that made this coin possible also stated that it had to be minted for two years, so ther will be a 2007 coin minted. After that it's up for grabs.

Was at my coin dealer today and was tempted to buy the coin. It's beautiful, but I would have to get a loan to pull it off.
I'm going to sleep on it tonight, and then make a decision in the morning.

Need some help.
I woke up this morning and decided to buy the coin. However, the one I was going to buy is no longer available.
Are they still available from the mint? If not, what's the best route to obtain one?
Thanks.

It's funny that you should say this, as it is exactly what happened when the ones I ordered came in. The wife claimed them and so help me, she put them under her pillow and then dared me to remover them. Like that guy on Tv says, "lost another one to .....!"
