I was under the impression that ebay has forbidden the quoting of price lists in their coin section. Has this changed? or did I read the rules wrong?

Does this auction not violate that rule?

I haven'y heard of that, or just decided to ignore it. I occasionally have something like"1/3 Krause vale" or something like that. Trouble is, you can insert any price/value table, even your own. I guess as long as you say where it's from, ok. I also quote "completed auctions"
for a guideline only. Everything I sell starts@ .99, so maybe it's a good thing to let the uninformed know what to expect. And as far as violating anything, about 20-40% violate ongoing.

The only ebay coin rules I could find pertained to grading standards and counterfeits.

What are the guidelines?
Coins and paper money

Keep the following guidelines in mind when you're listing coins and paper money:

*

Include all relevant information that you know about the item, such as origin, date of issue, and condition.
*

Include a clear picture of the actual item being sold- don't use only stock pictures. You can add up to 12 photos to your Collectibles listings for free.
*

Include all information about any alterations that may have been made to the item.
*

Individually identify every item listed to avoid misunderstandings about what is for sale.
*

Don't list the item if you're unsure of its origin or authenticity.

It's down under the "Raw and uncertified coins" section:

Quote:
No estimate of value (even if personal opinion) or reference to a price guide is included in the title or description.

On that basis, I would say "yes", it's a violation. Even if they are a bit vague about exactly what grade they think their coin might be, and they include the price guide for all 1909 cent varieties in all conditions, just to be on the safe side.

I notice the "Certified" section has no such restriction, so presumably quoting catalogue values for slabbed coins is OK.

As a point of interest, none of this applies to sales originating from a Canadian members address, at least on Canadian coins and there was nothing under the US coins section either on ebay dot ca. Not the case here of course, but I initially found it peculiar but then I recall they drafted this policy for the US sales site under pressure from TPG's and collector groups (and likely quite rightly so).
