I have a Peace dollar which was encased in acrylic, which was apparently given as a reward or prize. The acrylic was so dark I could not even read the date. I freed the dollar from the acrylic without damage, and the face is in great shape. However, the edge and the back have some "blobs" which appear to be acrylic residue or glue. I am wondering about methods to remove the residue without significant damage to the coin.
I would definately give it an acetone bath...IT WILL NOY HURT THE COIN, but should take the resin off.....always remember to be in an open area and no flames!!
