I can clear all this up for you...

I am not accepting attributions, but Bob Piazza and B.J. Neff are.

The fee for attribution is $3. The post office gets the rest, and the $5 shipping is for any size package. Because you choose to send in one coin isn't anything I can control.

I'll briefly explain what goes into the attribution process...

First, there's comparison identification, which could take up to 30 minutes per coin. While this doesn't apply in your specific case, it does most of the time. We have to be sure that whatever coin is sent to us is not an already-known die variety. Second part is setting the coin up for photography and taking the photos. This generally takes 15 minutes per coin. Editing the photos is next. This involves loading the photos onto a computer, cropping, cutting, saving, naming them, and uploading them to the server. This takes 15 minutes per coin. After that, the coins are repackaged for shipping with a personal letter written to you telling you what was found and what was done with your coins. This takes time too.

If you hung around while all this was being done, you would be visiting me for at least an hour for your $3. There are VERY few jobs in this country where it's even legal to pay $3 an hour for services.

I shut down attribution services at my place because for the money we charge, it's simply too much work, and I have a lot of other things I have to do to actually pay the bills. $3 per hour wasn't enough, obviously.

You might want to think again before complaining about sending $3 to an expert to have them personally evaluate your coin. My personal opinion is that you're getting one heck of a bargain.

I wasn't really complaining about the fee, just whether the value of the coin in question justifies the (total) cost to me. Thank you all for your input on this coin.
Sincerely,John1
