But, who knows? Maybe I will put up a prize. I have been known to change my mind. Hmmm. Anybody want to guess who this love token was given to? The rules: 1) One guess per person per post. 2) I will give a clue every handful of posts. 3) After a clue is given, you may guess again. Meaning, you can only post one name as a guess, and you cannot guess again until I post a clue.

LOL! I guess I should have been a little clearer. Try to guess the name inscribed on the back.

Clue 1a - I have no idea who she is. I just bought this coin because it was cool.

I've never heard of a love token before, but I'll throw in 'Mary'.

Ok, I've learned something here again today. Thanks Scooby. *********** Love tokens are part of the numismatic world. They're listed under After Strike Modifications Division in most books. They were very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries and were presented as gifts sometimes in small pouches. ************

I was looking for a good link to hook you up with, but it sounds like you may have found one or two. I only heard of them recently, reading something on the web, and just happened to run into this one today. I thought this was interesting: http://www.scvhistory.com/scvhistor...r122907.html

An interesting article. It claims that "The United States officially banned mutilation of coinage in 1909". What about those machines that squash pennies into oval souvenirs? Are those actually illegal? (Sorry if this is too far off topic)

I've never been clear on that, either. There must be an asterisk in there somewhere. I seen a listing on ebay a couple/few weeks ago where a lot of 5-7 cents were punched out with all kinds of hearts and clovers and such. We started to discuss it here, but ended up talking about feedback instead: https://goccf.com/t/64750

A couple more guesses and I'll give a clue.
