I was looking through a few of my coins today and I came upon a 1972 Type 1 clad Eisenhower Clad Dollar... And I thought I saw something odd about the look of "United States of America" ... as I look closer I realize "United States of America" is completely doubled! I have tried everywhere on the net to find info on the 1972 Type-1 and no site says anything about the doubling... Can someone PLEASE HELP clarify if this is a normal Ike, or did I come upon something special?

Only way to determine if the doubling is valid or if it's MD
is to look at pics of the area's of doubling in question.

Hope you got a nice DDR!

Not sure about doubling, but here are three links to help you out on the three 1972 types:

If you have already seen these, then disregard.

There are a good quantity of doubling on Ikes. I am fairly new at collecting them, but there are some here that know alot about them. I am currently working on a set and have included some of the varieties (Friendly Eagle, Moon Line Die Crack, Talon Head, etc). The references given by Jbuck are very helpful; Stewart will probably comment here also; he is very knowledgable about the Ikes.

Darth; without pictures I suspect most, if not all, of us will only be able to speculate. I would love to see the doubling of the entirety of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Darth Anarchus,

With out seeing a picture I would be hesitant to even hazard a guess.
With that said. Below is a link to some pictures of a
1972-D DDO-001 DDR-001 on the Ike Group web site.
It belongs to Rob Ezerman. Look at the pictures farther down
of the reverse and you will see where the Corners of the letters have a split in them particularly the "S" this is a good indication aof a true DDO. if the doubling on yours looks more like a flat shelf following
the shape of the letters that is an indication of a Strike Doubled coin
(Machine Doubled or MDD) I hope this helps

jprine, Thank You for the compliment, I am Very Much still the student

I still can't get the pics good enough to post, I am very much the newbie with photography, but hopefully I can post it in the very near future after I get a better camera... The pics of the "USA part" DDO of the 1972-D is pretty close to what is on my 1972- P... But I guess I have to wait on a camera... There is no coin shop where I live, and the closest one is half an hour away, but I will keep you guys posted and Thanks EVERYONE for the insight...

That was fun. I just sorted through my Ikes (~150 from 72) looking for a type 2. Sadly I didn't find any but it was fun to learn something new and have a new reason to play with coins.

This forum is great.
