I was going through my world coin in my shop that I have accumulated over the last year (since my opening) and found something interesting about US coinage.

I have accumalated about 50 kilo of world coin in 12 months of which 10 kilo would be USA. Keep in mind I purchased no bulk collections of US material, this is just in mixed lotsa of world coin. To me that is a lot of USA material being brought into Australia.

Given the quantity I had I thought I would make a circulation set of US coin. I started with dimes (reason is because!!!!) and managed to put together a reasonable complte Roosevelt set. I was missing the following...
1969
1973D
1974
1975D
1982P
1990D
1992P
1992D
1994P
1996P
1997W

Very Sparse from 2000 onwards.

From what I can see it is almost complete from the start of the Roosevelt series till 1999.

To me this is very interesting that I can get an almost complete series from "holiday" money. I am now looking forward to see what I find out of the rest of the USA coin I have and how far I can get in other denominations.

Now that I have started I will have to look at earlier issues as well.

This isn't too surprising since the coin that appears in poundage accumulates over a period of many years. Coins that are tough to get today will appear in accumulations of this sort. These coins will also tend to be much higher grade than what circulates in the home country. The simple fact it's there at all implies it came over when it was still relatively new.

If you went the the dimes here you'd find a far different assortment. Today the bulk of the dimes are '99 to date. These will account for nearly 75% of them!! The older coins are getting difficult to find at all and when they are they'll be in pretty sorry shape. Besides them all being worn about 35% have serious damage.

When I pull out my poundage and look at the Australian I see mostly older dates in XF/ AU with few after 1980.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
