I used to work for a bank and they'd throw out the non US coins that were put into their coin sorter and I'd end of taking them home and got a bunch of foreign currency now that is completely useless to me.

any suggestions?!?

I'd trade it in for silver.

For coins, I know of some places that will buy them for half its face value or so, and that's pretty good for coins. Coins are basically useless once they leave the foreign country, unless that currency is pretty popular and you can sell them off to someone who is going to that country.

Best bet is to sell it or trade it in bulk on ebay. You got them for free, and ebay probably has the best price.

I wish I had a job like that. As a dark side collector (non-US), I'm always asking stores and the like what they do with their foreign stuff. 99% of the time they say throw them out or they don't know. I collect plain ol' circulated foreign so finding a bank that would give them to me would be great. I think I'll check with the local banks when I get a chance. I hadn't thought of that.
