Hello all :)

I bought on ebay a roll of the 2009 men's hockey engraved 2 red colored quarters and I'm very confused about it. It show strange 'dot' and mark I never seen before.

I don't have a good camera with me and strangely the mark doesn't appear on my scanner but very visible with naked eye at angle but not if you look straight at them. It look exactly like some one left a piece of scotch tape on the coins or put a scotch tape on the coins and remove it and some glue are left on the coins.

But the thing is on 20 of the 40 coins I have opened so far they all show exactly the same mark at the same location. So I am thinking some sort of die error that could have cause that.

This really remove some beauty in the coins and I'm not sure if I should return them or not because it can be a nice variety valued by some collector.

Someone already seen something similar before ?

thanks ianmprice

I try take a picture from a old webcam, very bad picture but it's all I've got
i copy the picture and outlined the dark area, I also put a small part of the scan so you can see that even the MASCULIN written on the piece has some mark on it very visible on the 'U' but also on the 'LIN', this is the only thing that appear on the scanner

The edge of the area look like they made of dot and the 2 area look like different finish, again it look like a scotch tape on a coin except that I have 20 piece with the exact same mark at the same place.

Error-On-The-Field-Of-The-Coin

I will try to get better picture, thanks again for your time

Yes, I have. The picture you posted was taken by someone else, at least 5 months ago, and has been posted on this forum and others previously.

Why not just say you found a picture someone else took of the same phenomenon that demonstrates the marks that you're speaking about?

In any event, welcome back to the forum.

Hi Didou,

I know what you are talking about. That 'scotch tape' look is on all the coloured hockey quarters that were meant for circulation (I have not seen it on the petro canada sets). My thinking is that it keeps the colour on the coin longer while in circulation.
