How much would it cost to set up a full set minus the keys of Barber dimes in AG-VF? I'm not to picky as to the grade, just the type. I really want to create a type set of 'old' obsolete coins, but most are prohibitively expensive. I think this set would be more resonable no? Also, what are the keys and semi keys in this series? Thanks for your help!

It wouldn't be too overly expensive. Probably under $1K if you accept the keys in AG.
The big dates are 1895-O, 1901-S, and 1904-S. Most of the 1890's coins with mint marks are going to be over $20 in any condition. I have been working on my set for some time. I need 3 coins (1896-O,S and 1903-S). Then time to upgrade. I have been trying for VF+, but about 1/3 of my set isn't there. $1000 for the 1895-O in VF is a little steep, but its a goal, right?

It seems the 1895-o is the big key - thats expensive. The others seem to be attainable for around $50 (in a lower grade)
What about the 'regular' no mintmark dates? How much should each of them be bought for?

I am currently also working on my Barber dime set. AG coins are actually reasonably priced for the semi-key dates in this series The entire set in AG would cost you less than $1,000. You are correct, the key date is in fact the 1895-o and would cost you about $200 - $250 in certified AG. The semi-keys are: 1892-s, 1894-o, 1895, 1896-o, 1896-s, 1897-o, 1901-s, and 1903-s. These would cost about $50 in AG - G. There are also about 10 other better dates that would run from $10 - $30 in AG. The remaing pieces you would probably be able to buy at a premium to spot $1.50 to $2.00, with a few going for around $5.00. This is the way I started my set, buying AG and G coins from dealer junk boxes. I soon began upgrading my set and this is where it gets interesting (expensive).

How many pieces could I get for 1.50 - 2? I would probably get them first

I would say that you should be able to get almost 40 coins for less than $2.00. Most of the pieces from 1900 onward, with the exception of a few of the S and O mints. Maybe a few more if you get lucky, it all depends on what dealers have in their junk silver boxes in your area. Of course most of these will be AG and/or problem coins.

So those 40 (or so) pieces should be in the $80 neighborhood huh...thats pretty fair. It would leave 37 coins from the rest of the dansco

That 40 number is a rough estimate, not an exact number. Like I said before it depends on what you can find in junk boxes. Keep in mind that these would be AG coins and might not look all that attractive. I was able to find more than 50 coins, but It took hours upon hours of looking. Good luck!

Cool - thanks! No dealers in my area, so that might be a problem. Maybe someone will sell some on CCF and I would be able to pick some up. Thanks!
