Can someone explain to me what they mean by 1878 Reverse. I read about them in my RedBook and they say something about the arrows being parallel but when I look at it, the arrows don't look any different than any other Morgan. What am I not seeing?

Top arrow fletch is slanted on the 79 and up to 1904 I think. The 78 arrow fletch is parallel to the arrow shaft and also the breast is sunken on the 78 variety whereas the breast is convex on the 79 and above. nlp

Thanks Nip, pardon my ignorance but is the "fletch" the feathers on the end of a arrow?

Fletch does refer to the feathers on the arrows.

the sunken chest is the easiest way to remember them, as the 79 REV to 1904 is rounded...

1878 top feather parallel with other feathers. 1879 top feather wider and elongated triangle shaped. Both reverses were used in 1879.

Do you all think $95.00 would be a good price for one of these in Premium Quality BU? I have not seen the coin so I cannot post pics. I saw the ad in this weeks Coin World, page 16, from Paul Sims. Thought getting some opinions from you all would be a good idea. Thanks,

I think $95 for an 1879-S Morgan with reverse of 1878 in premium BU would be an excellent price. Unfortunately, I don't think you would get one from this dealer. I purchased coins from them years ago and coins described as "BU" were cleaned AU sliders. I would look elsewhere.
I picked up one of these in somewhat baggy (but original) AU in my dealer's assorted dollar bin the other day. My cost was about $23. I'll take some pictures and post them later.

Here's my 1879-S with reverse of 1878 (Type 2 reverse). I grade it AU-50+. It does not appear to have been cleaned but it does unfortunately have lots of contact marks. Still, a "fun find" from my local dealer's bin of mixed Morgans.
