Interesting Die Crack In 1953 Half Dollar

Stunet Valued Member United States 211 Posts	Posted 06/21/2010 9:26 pm This is a small date 1953 half dollar. Has a huge die crack on one side. Look right of the hoof. Another of the coins I found that looks cleaned when intensely blown up. I wonder if the mint didn't polish some of these as a matter of course. I can't imagine a collector doing it. In a few more strikes, the die Crack(s) will deepen and part of the die will break off but will be still retained for a few more strikes..... Thus a Retained Broken Die... you will start to see that the plane of the part punched by the broken part is at a slightly different angle from the main fields of the coin.
