Argentina is the only country in the world never actually colonized by Britain where you can find "English" as a significant ethnic minority. Immigrants from England helped put newly independent Argentina on its feet and gave the country everything from railways to football (soccer). It doesn't surprise me that British expats in Argentina might want to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria, along with the rest of the Empire. An interesting medal from the colony that wasn't a colony; I find it curious that they chose Latin, rather than either English or Spanish, as the language for the medal.

This example (sadly, no pic) went unsold in the Nobles April 2010 auction at an AU$70 estimate. "Eimer 1821" is the reference number from British Commemorative Medals and their Values by Christopher Eimer. I don't have a copy of that book so can't look it up to see if it reports a mintage.

Nice tribute to Victoria from an odd-ball country. I'd like to know too how (un)common this would be!

I was just over at a coin club member's house and he had a copy of Eimer. I looked up your medal, but it doesn't give mintages or a maker. The CV back when the book came out in 1987 was £22.
