First post ever - greetings my friends! I am a recent inductee into the wild world of coin collecting. Today I snagged this great 1946 Half Dollar at a flea market. I noticed that my 2011 RedBook has a Double Die Reverse error listed for this year and, it may just be wishful thinking, but I think I see some doubling on "pluribus unum", some tail feathers and near his left foot.

If I'm way off base let me know what to look for in the future!

Thanks so much!

Hi jgnp,
Yes that is the '46 DDR, as you suspect. Very nice pick up, congratulations and welcome to the forum.

Cherrypicked indeed! The seller had dozens for the same price - this was the only 1946 and, incidentally, the only year showing an error variety in the Red Book. I was going to buy one anyways; so, I grabbed this one and did some epic googling when I got home to help ID it.

I really must pick up a copy of the " CherryPickers Guide" as this might be my favorite part of the hobby so far.

Thanks again coin nuts!

Great Cherrypick, and that is why we do what we do! Cherrypicking is perhaps one of the few areas where collectors don't pay enough attention. Over the years, I've assembled a number of various top varieties, among several different coin denominations and types just by keeping my eye's open and looking closely at new acquisitions. Welcome to the forum.
