I posted this in another thread with a bunch of other coins. It wasn't getting many opinions, though I thought I'd give it it's own thread in the grading section. Strong details. The date is "mostly" visible in the form of several "blobs", with just enough distinguishment in the last digit to classify it as a 1924. What would you say it grades?

I would venture a VF, but I am not good at grading SLQs above VG since none of mine are that high of grade.

I'll say VF-25, although that is the strangest 24-D I've seen. It seems as if someone wanted to only wear off the date and not the other details.

Sorry Johnny! I've been busy and not grading!

This is a strange one!! Definitely VF in everything but the date. Strange! (It does look like the date was removed somehow?)

I can't go any higher than VG-8 due to the date being so worn though.

Still a great pickup for the money!

Yeah, I actually had a tough time deciding whether to keep this one or the one I sold you Edwin(yours definitely has a better date). IMHO, the date was very poorly struck to begin with on this coin. I've seen a few MS 24-ds that have blobby poor looking dates even though they've never seen circulation. I'm just not sure how much it would affect the grade, though it definitely should affect market value.

Hopefully you guys know where I stand on the issue...I think the date should have little bearing on the grade. But I do acknowledge it affects the value (just like a strong strike on the shield should).
