I am going through some coins that I have laying around. I have some, not many SBAs, and they are all 1979 P. So I am looking for the wide rim, but think I really need an education on this as I am going blind trying to figure it out.

When I look at the rims of these coins, each one appears slightly differnt from teh next (to me, at least).

I have read that the number 1 on a wide rim is almost touching the rim. If that is the only measure, than I have none.

second question, does any one hold onto these SBA circulated coins? I am thinking of cashing them in (to buy more coins, of course).

If they're circulated, and you don't have any Wide rims, by all means spend them! But if any are from 1981, I'd keep them as they were not released for circulation that year...

Don't go by the width of the rim because that can vary depending on the centering of the obv die. The key is the distance from the bottom of the 1 to the rim. If it is less than the width of the upright of the 1 you have a near date/wide rim. If the distance is roughly twice the width of the upright of the 1 then it is the far date/narrow rim.

yep, the term "wide rim" confused me. I took a pic and it helped me out. I will probably use by SBAs.. to buy a wide rim.
