I saw in my latest coin catalog that the 2010 silver proof quarters are available now. I am wondering if the first year set, or first few year of sets will be as popular, or more popular than the silver State Quarters? What do you think?

I would say that to the general public the State Parks quarter series would be less popular that the State series due to less interest in the subject matter. States then State Parks, State Birds, State Flowers, State Songs, State Whatever else and on down the ladder of interest we go. IMO

I know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but I would assume a proportionate decline in collector interest, based solely on the subject matter of the coins.

In my opinion the design quality of the America the Beautiful Quarters has already surpassed that of the Statehood Quarters. Collector popularity could increase as people appreciate them more than the cartoonish "arcade tokens" of the past series.

I feel that there will be a high mintage of the proof sets (clad and silver) because so many people missed out on the 1999 quarters.

I don't think that they'll be "as popular".....I think that there may be a "falling off" of the total estimated number of collectors that the State Quarters brought in.
I do not think that the first year Set will be like the 1999 St. Qtr. Set in value.
I think it does have some "potential" as a first year Set though....especially since it contains the new Shield Cents too. And the new Native Dollar...... I dunno....but there's a chance it could hold a "better than issue price" in value.

Wasn't there supposed to be a series of five ounce silver replicas of the America the Beautiful Quarter series sold by the mint? I have been unable to find anything about them on the Mint website. Did they decide to scrap that plan?

Yes there is, but I believe they will be distributed through the bullion dealer network like the American Eagle bullion coins.

They can't scrap the 5 ozers unless Congress changes the law. You just have to realize that the mint has never tried making coins that big and they have a lot of experimenting to do. (Yes they have made three inch medals but believe me it is NOT the same thing.)

Ignoring the hijack and getting back on topic. Your apology acepted.

I think that 5 years into the park series there will be some folks who will try to go back to pick up all the coins they missed. The proof set might double in price but I don't see it going through the roof.
