Somebody offering me these Indonesian Palembang Sultanate Coins. He told me that he bought it from excavation near the river of Musi, in Sumatra. There was a Big Kingdom over there called Srivijaya in the 7th century. But I think, this is later date. The coins look to me like it was cast, since I saw remnants and imperfect holes. But I could be wrong. I don't have the other side, but in ebay, somebody else show a plain back.
I don't know anything about these coins. Can somebody help me with these? Any comments appreciated.

Until present day, Indonesia has hundred of local languages, not dialects. Palembang-Sumatra has different language than Java, were I was born. We are united by Indonesian the National Language.
But these coins was minted in the Buddhist-Hindu era. I think it was written in Sanskrit. Since Indonesia become Muslim country, this language died out. Many Indonesian has Sanskrit based name and last name. They thought me in the Elementary School, but I don't remember nor recognize it anymore. Has anybody seen these coins?
Indonesia National motto is Bhinneka Tungal Ika, means exactly same as E Pluribus Unum.

The coins are from the Islamic period; "Sultanate" is an Arabic word, and Arabic is the language on these coins, though it's written somewhat crudely for the most part. Here is the zeno.ru page for Palembang Sultanate coins; there aren't many, but the ones that are there match what I see on your two pics. They should be cast, made of tin and yes, they are uniface, with blank backs.

I can see some dates on some of your coins, mostly in the AH 1190-1220 range (roughly 1690-1720 AD).

I'm afraid I can't give a catalogue value; these coins don't seem to be listed in my Krauses.

Thanks Sap. Actually, I should know that Sultanate is always Muslim Government. I completely miss it. At least we know that we are dealing with old coins. Since it was cast, are these real deal, not copies? As far price, he is asking for $ 2.50 each. I think the price is reasonable, knowing their ages. Actually I kind of like them, but I contemplating to start adding a new "country" and having hard time to get additional coins or even completing the set. Should I or shouldn't I go forward, I don't know? Any input will be appreciated.

I'd be cautious while having that sort of deal. 2,5 $ sounds too good to be true for 1300 years old cast coins which has very few examples around. zeno.ru is a very relibale website but they may be fooled or didn2t double check too. I remember back a long time ago some dealer on ebay sold so called "Wink" dynasty copper coins of China and Manchuria, some dynasty that never did existed. However, this is my two pennies (British Pennies) on the subject.. Caveat Emptor.
