Hard boil and egg. Place coin and egg in sealed ziplock bag. Break egg shell. Wait.
That is how coins are toned like that.

I like Natural Toned coins....Not Artifical toned coins like this or any of the others he has....
I read an article long time ago about how coins can be artifically toned through grading companies holders..Wish I still had the link..

Not my cup of tea but it is quite a striking coin. Are all you naysayers saying that PCGS doesn't know an AT when it graded this? (or are you saying that this was AT'd after slabbing?) Looks like RCM case toning to me. That is one heck of a premium price for a proof-65

Could very well be natural toning. But...if the mint packages the coin in something that will cause it to tone over time, is that artificial toning? ;o) As mentioned, PCGS is very strict on AT now, and one would think that this coin would draw attention to itself when viewed by a grader.

I like Natural Toned coins....Not Artifical toned coins like this or any of the others he has....I also like naturally toned coins, and this one looks fine. I have sold a few coins myself through Dick Abrahms (greattoning), and he is no coin doctor. His pictures look over-saturated, but that is all he is guilty of. I read an article long time ago about how coins can be artificially toned through grading companies holders..Wish I still had the link..Sadly, I was the one who found a member from a coin forum across the street who was toning coins inside pcgs rattlers, but they looked nothing like this coin. The colors he was producing were blues, and they looked awful.

The one I posted here is genuine. Those dollar tone rapidly cause of the product use in the Mint case, sometime the toning can get beautiful color like this one and it's simply beautiful.Im happy you like it HadleyDog.

I love the look of this coin artificial or not it is striking...its value or lack of would depend on the buyer :)

It is quite attractive, at least on the reverse side. $240 worth of pretty though? Despite hadley's vote of confidence for the seller, I remain perplexed how a Cu Ni Jefferson nickel "naturally" turns bright green with irridescent purple edge highlights as per his other auctions.

I'll cast a vote for the "Natural toning" side. I've seen many coins tone like this, (maybe not quite as dramatic) from those original mint packages these came in. I haven't been on in a while, nice seeing you all again.

The recent vintage of the coin make me suspect the toning, but it's hard to tell without seeing it up close and personal.

generally I stick to the rule "'That 70's Show' transition background" = AT
